The Blue Connoisseur is a weekly round up of dining recommendations in NY.
Food exploration should begin in your place of dwelling. An easy choice to kick off the Blue Connoisseur restaurant blog. I’ve called Clinton Hill home for the last five months, located in North Central Brooklyn close to the Navy Yard. A diverse neighborhood with Asian, Italian and Caribbean influences, one can spend hours walking around Pratt Institute and admiring the 18th century brownstones.
“The Hill” is a haven for young families, students and hipsters. The closest subway to where I live is the Clinton Washington G train, B57 and B54 bus. Late night I recommend Lyft or Uber for convenience.

Go here for the pasta. They have a counter in the back of the restaurant where you can buy homemade Italian favorites including sauce and imported pantry items. I met one of the owners there on Sunday night named Luca who recommended an outstanding parmigiano cheese for dessert. It came with an orange marmalade jam they make in house. I noticed the bartender taking restaurant inventory on a piece of paper before I left. Having a backyard in the restaurant that’s only open in warmer temperatures, I wondered how restaurant expenses fluctuate and how owners calculate food cost from wholesale vendors.

Californian vibe with plants decorating every corner of the space, a necessary restaurant costing. There’s plenty of seafood and meat supply on the menu. Look for the chef with eccentric earrings, Krusty the clown and pizza slices were my favorite. The food is good and the cocktails have cheeky names like “Canyon Lady” and “Baby I’m for Real”. They also have some of standard best restaurant apps like nachos and the millenial go-to, kale salad.

This place is all about the architecture. Outside I laughed at the Back to the Future like clock, to indicate you’ve arrived (or sent back) to your destination. I wasnt a fan of the restaurant supply namesake Sisters Laffa Wrap, however, beautiful design and s-curve white marble bars are what draw you in. Great date bar or happy hour spot during a weekday.
